Labels:

Same as with other products, tire manufacturing date is also important to the tire itself which means that tire is also perishable. Not known to others tire manufacturing date is not just a number indicated on the side wall of tire. The importance of this number is to know whether the tire is still safe to use or not.

As you may not be aware of, a car tire expires 10 years after the manufacturing date, After this date the tire is not recommended for use and should be replace with a new tire, based on The Japan Tire Manufacturers Association (JATMA), also 5 years after the tire is being used by your car, a tire should be inspected to determine if the tire can still be used. For some car manufacturers they included in their car user’s manual the timing and replacement of the stock tire, but in Europe the car manufacturer recommendations is to replace the tire that is more than 6 years from the time of manufacture.

However, based on the tire and rubber manufacturer, it’s very hard to determine the expiration of a tire because of a lot of factors that affects tire aging.

In any case, it is better to be safe by following what your car manufacturer recommendations to avoid a future accident that might happen due to tire bursting.

Safety starts by knowing what is the manufacturing date of your car tire and where it is located.

So, where does this tire manufacturing date located?

The tire manufacturing date was stamped on the side wall of the tire. When you look closer the at the tire side wall it can easily be spotted, a 4 digit number indicated by a picture below.

Tyre Manufacturing Date

The first two digits indicate the week of the manufacture and the last two digits indicates the year when the tire was manufactured.

In the above picture the manufacturing date is 3408, the first two digits is 34 it means that the tire was made on the 34th week which is the last week of August and the last two digits is 08 which means the tire was manufactured in 2008, therefore the manufacturing date of this tire was on August 2008.

If we consider what the Europe car manufacturer advice, then this tire is not recommended to use by September 2014.

Again, although based on the tire manufacturer that tire expiration is very difficult to determine and there is no specific test that will prove the exact date a tire expired, it is not a guarantee that the tire is safe to use beyond the car manufacturers recommendations.

So the best thing to do is to still follow what your car manufacturer recommendations indicated on your car owner’s manual for the proper use of your car tire. Also, by the next time you buy a car tire consider checking the tire manufacturing date so that you can be sure that the tire you install in your car is worth every penny.
