Kinds of Tires – Bias ply Tires
Labels: Tyre TechnicalThere are basically three types of car tire construction, these are radial ply construction, bias-belted construction and bias ply construction. The name is a constant reminder because each identifies or defines the way a tire is made.
Bias Ply Tires
The bias ply tire is named for the body plies that criss-cross over one another at angle from the bead, which is a part that holds the tire on the rim, on one side to the bead on the other side. Automobile tires are constructed with either two or four of these body plies but the basic construction, bias ply construction, is the same.
The advantage of bias ply construction is that the tire flexes easily and gives a smooth, comfortable ride. This construction has great strength. A disadvantage is that bias ply tires tend to squirm and scuff off tread rubber s they roll along. As a matter of fact, bias ply tires usually wear faster than the other two constructions.
Bias ply tires are generally referred to as conventional tires and, until recent years, were standard on most automobiles.
